ZIP Fiji opened in 2008 as Fiji’s first canopy tour operator. The Momi Bay course — their newest and biggest — runs 16 lines across 5km through three distinct ecosystems: old-growth Vesi tree canopy at the top (the trees used for traditional kava bowls, now rare), Raintree forest in the middle section, and limestone cave features at the lower level, finishing with views across Momi Bay, the reef channel, and the outer islands.

It’s the highest, fastest, and longest zipline course in Fiji. The ocean views from the upper lines are some of the best elevated perspectives of the western Viti Levu coast available without a flight. It runs in all weather except lightning overhead, high winds, or especially heavy rain.

The three ecosystems

Upper mountain: Vesi tree canopy

The course begins in the higher section of the mountain, which is one of the few remaining stands of old-growth Vesi trees (Intsia bijuga) in Fiji. Vesi is the hardwood traditionally used to carve the large bowls for kava ceremonies. Most Vesi on the main island has been cut down, making this section of the Momi course ecologically significant. Your guide explains this while you’re zipping — the ecological context is one of the things that distinguishes ZIP Fiji from pure-adrenaline zipline operators.

Middle section: Raintree forest

The transition zone descends through Raintree canopy — more open, with filtered light and increasing views toward the coast. The lines get longer in this section and the sense of speed increases.

Lower section: limestone caves and ocean views

The lower section of the course enters the limestone cave terrain. Lines pass around cave openings and dramatic rock formations, with views opening up toward Momi Bay, the reef entrance, and the visible channel used by larger vessels. On clear days, outer islands are visible on the horizon.

The Tau Caves (Fiji’s largest cave system, according to ZIP Fiji) are accessible via an optional abseil (rappel) of 100 metres into the cavern floor — available as an add-on. Multiple guests specifically describe this as worth adding for the full experience.

Activities and pace

The 16 lines are paced to allow enjoyment of each stop between platforms. Guides are active throughout — pointing out flora, fauna, and cave features, carrying water for guests, assisting with cameras and phones, and taking photos during lines. Multiple reviewers specifically mention that having a guide handle photography means you can be fully present rather than managing a phone.

The course includes a brief safety briefing and harness fitting before departure. Equipment is professional-grade. Guides are described consistently as knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely fun — particularly good with nervous first-timers.

Departure times and planning

9:00am (morning): the cooler option. Multiple guests specifically recommend the morning departure — it’s significantly less hot than the 2:00pm slot, especially at the upper elevation sections and on exposed platforms. Preferred choice for most visitors.

2:00pm (afternoon): works well for guests with morning commitments or those doing an airport drop-off version. The course runs well into the afternoon and drops you off (or returns you to hotel) by approximately 5:30–6:00pm.

Lunch

A meal is included with the tour. This is typically served at the basecamp area. Exact menu varies by day and group size — standard Fijian/mixed fare adequate for a post-zip refuel.

Transfers

Nadi and Denarau area: complimentary round-trip coach transfers from a wide range of listed hotels. Pickup times vary by hotel; confirmed with your booking.

Coral Coast (Sigatoka and beyond): transfers available at an additional cost per person — contact the operator at booking to arrange.

Fiji Marriott Momi Bay: a specific private transfer version of the tour operates from the Fiji Marriott lobby, with drop-off at either the resort or Nadi International Airport after the course. This is the “departure day” option — do the zipline on your last morning in Fiji, then get dropped at the airport. Build sufficient buffer time for transfers and check-in.

The airport drop-off version

This is one of the best uses of a departure-day morning in Fiji. The sequence: hotel to zipline course → 3-hour course with lunch → direct drop to Nadi Airport. Most guests describe this as transforming an otherwise blank checkout-to-flight gap into one of their most memorable Fiji memories.

Planning if using airport drop-off:

  • Confirm your flight departure time and work backward from check-in time
  • Allow at least 2.5 hours at NAN before international flights (check your airline requirements)
  • Factor in the 35-minute drive from the course to the airport
  • Coordinate luggage: either check out of the hotel and bring luggage to the course, or arrange storage

What to wear and bring

  • Closed-toe shoes with grip (required — not optional)
  • Long-ish shorts or pants (some platforms have vegetation; comfortable movement helps)
  • Hair tied back (essential — loose hair in a zip harness is unpleasant)
  • Sunscreen and hat for platform time
  • Small zip-pocket or secured bag for phone and essentials (nothing loose in pockets — lines can be fast)
  • Water bottle (guides carry water, but bring your own)
  • Insect repellent for the forested cave sections

What’s included

  • Round-trip transfers from Nadi/Denarau area hotels (or private transfer from Fiji Marriott with airport drop-off)
  • Guided 16-line zipline experience
  • All safety equipment (harness, helmet, gloves)
  • Guide throughout (including photo assistance)
  • Lunch
  • Cave section guided walk

What’s not included

  • Optional abseil/rappelling into Tau Caves (additional cost — worth it)
  • Gratuities

FAQs

How scary is it?

Described by most first-timers as “way more manageable than I expected.” The guides are specifically trained to support anxious participants through their first few lines. The platform teams communicate clearly and maintain calm energy throughout.

Is it suitable for children?

Minimum age 5 years. Children pay adult price. Most families with children 8+ report the course works well. Very young children’s engagement varies — consider whether your child handles heights comfortably before booking.

Is the morning departure worth it?

Yes. Multiple guests specifically note that afternoon heat makes the 2:00pm departure significantly less comfortable. Morning is the standard recommendation unless you have a specific reason to choose afternoon.

Can I do this if I have a fear of heights?

Some guests specifically describe themselves as people who are “afraid of heights” and still complete the course with guide support. Having supportive guides and manageable line lengths helps. If severe acrophobia is a concern, discuss with the operator.
