Mana Island Day Cruise from Denarau - Buffet Lunch, Three Beaches and Resort Pools

Mana Island is one of the larger resort islands in the Mamanuca group — big enough to have three distinct beach areas on different orientations, two freshwater swimming pools, and enough space to comfortably find a quiet corner. The day cruise gives you access to all the resort facilities, a buffet lunch, and a proper island afternoon without the commitment of staying overnight.

The key decision is full day vs half day. The catamaran ride each way takes roughly 75 minutes, so the half-day option (approximately 3 hours on the island) is genuinely short once you add orientation and lunch. Most guests who prioritize snorkelling, pool time, or simply relaxing without rushing choose the full day.

The catamaran ride

The catamaran is South Sea Cruises’ high-speed vessel with air-conditioned indoor lounge, open outer decks, and free Wi-Fi. Departure from Port Denarau at 9:30am; the route passes close to other Mamanuca Islands before arriving at Mana. Coach pickups from most Nadi, Denarau, and Wailoaloa hotels begin approximately 75 minutes before the vessel departure — confirm your pickup time with South Sea Cruises the day before.

On the island-hopping route, the vessel may stop to drop off or pick up resort guests at other islands. This adds some transit time but also gives you closer views of the Mamanuca chain.

Mana Island Resort: what to do with your time

Mana Island Resort and Spa is a mid-range resort occupying a genuinely beautiful island. For day-trip guests, the accessible facilities include:

Three beach areas:

  • Lagoon Beach — the main beach on the protected side, with calmer water suited to snorkelling, kayaking, and paddleboarding
  • North Beach — quieter, with views across uninhabited islands; popular for walking and sunbathing
  • Sunset Beach — on the western side; worth positioning yourself here for the afternoon if you’re on the full-day option

Two freshwater swimming pools with poolside bars and sun loungers.

Snorkelling: the lagoon side of Mana has accessible coral reef snorkelling directly from the beach. Gear is available for an additional cost at the resort (bring your own if you’re particular about fit). Water clarity and marine life vary by season and conditions.

Motorised water sports: available at additional cost directly from the resort’s water sports desk. Options typically include jet skiing, parasailing, and glass-bottom boat tours. These are popular and space can be limited — decide quickly on arrival if motorised activities are important to your day.

Buffet lunch

A buffet lunch is included for both full-day and half-day guests. The buffet typically covers salads, hot dishes, and island-style sides. Reviews describe it as adequate resort buffet standard — not exceptional, but included and well-timed. Drinks at lunch and throughout the day are additional — settle these on your card at the resort before departure.

Note: infant meals are not included and must be purchased directly from the resort before departure.

Half-day timing reality check

With a 9:30am departure, approximately 75 minutes of cruising each way, and a half-day visit of approximately 3 hours on the island, the schedule is tight. You arrive around 10:45am, have until roughly 2:00pm on the island, and return on an early afternoon ferry. That’s enough time for: arrival orientation, one snorkelling session or pool swim, lunch, and a short walk. It’s not enough for snorkelling and motorised activities and an unhurried lunch and exploring all three beaches. If that sounds like your plan, book the full day.

FAQs

Can I pay cash for drinks or activities at Mana Island?

No. Mana Island Resort does not accept cash. Bring a credit or debit card for all on-island purchases.

What’s the best way to spend a full day at Mana?

Snorkel the lagoon on arrival when the light is good → secure a sun lounger near the pool or your preferred beach → lunch → motorised activity or second swim → slow afternoon at North Beach or Sunset Beach. Departs 4:40pm.

Is the half-day worth it?

For guests who have already spent a day on an island elsewhere and just want a few hours: possibly. For guests making their first day-trip to the outer islands, the half-day is too short to feel satisfied. The full day is consistently the better experience.
