Malamala Beach Club Heli Daytrip - Helicopter Arrival, Private Island Beach Club, Mamanuca Islands
There is a version of the Malamala Beach Club day that most people do: high-speed catamaran from Port Denarau, 30 minutes across the Mamanuca channel, arrive at the jetty with a crowd of fellow day-trippers. It’s a good day. Then there is this version: hotel pickup, transferred to a helicopter, ten minutes of low-altitude flying over turquoise water and coral reef, and you step out onto the island while everyone else is still boarding the ferry. The day is the same island. The arrival is a completely different experience.
This package is unambiguously at the luxury end of Fiji’s day-trip market. At USD $414 per person, it costs roughly three to four times a standard Malamala ferry day pass. What it buys, beyond the helicopter itself, is a one-way flight to the island, full day club entry, a FJD $100 food and beverage voucher per person (which covers a substantial portion of a good lunch and a couple of cocktails), complimentary non-motorised watersports for the day, and a boat transfer back to Denarau Marina in the afternoon. The asymmetry is clever: you arrive in the most spectacular way possible, and you return by boat — which is perfectly pleasant and saves the cost of a second helicopter leg.

The helicopter flight
The Mamanuca Islands are extraordinary from sea level. From 300 metres in a helicopter with the doors open to the air, they are something else entirely — coral atolls ringed in white sand, channels shifting between cobalt and jade, the Nadi coast receding behind you. The flight is short by air standards (roughly 10 minutes), which means every minute of it is the best bit. There’s no cruising altitude to wait through.
For many guests the flight is the centrepiece memory of the day, over and above anything that happens at the beach club itself. If you’ve considered a scenic helicopter flight as a separate activity on your Fiji itinerary, combining it with a full day at Malamala is a sensible way to double the value of the airtime cost.
Malamala Beach Club
Malamala Island is a small coral island in the Mamanuca group — walkable in under 20 minutes, large enough for the venue to breathe. The beach club itself is genuinely polished: an infinity-edge pool with open-water views, a beachside bar serving hand-crafted cocktails and Fiji craft beer, and a kitchen running an Asian and Pacific-inspired à la carte menu — think fresh fish, sharing plates, and flavours that sit well in the Pacific heat rather than fighting it.
The FJD $100 voucher included per person covers real ground here. A main course and two cocktails will largely exhaust it, which means you’re eating and drinking well without watching the bill climb constantly. Any spend beyond the voucher is settled by card.
Non-motorised watersports
Complimentary use of snorkelling gear, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards is included. The reef around Malamala is a protected site, and the snorkelling directly off the island’s beach is accessible from the sand — no boat required. Bring your own well-fitted mask if you’re particular; the provided gear is functional but fit varies by person.
Optional upgrades
Poolside day beds and beachside cabanas with butler service are available at additional cost but must be pre-booked directly with Malamala Beach Club before your visit. If having a dedicated beachside base matters to you — and on a hot day with a cocktail in hand, it very much might — arrange this in advance rather than hoping for availability on arrival.
Who this is for
This package works well for a few specific situations: a special occasion — anniversary, honeymoon, milestone birthday — where the arrival story is part of the gift; guests who’ve already done Malamala by ferry and want to do it differently; or travellers who have one high-budget day in their Fiji itinerary and want to concentrate it somewhere with real facilities rather than a resort beach day.
It also suits guests who have always wanted to fly in a helicopter but haven’t found a standalone flight that felt worth the price on its own. This gives the flight a destination and a day built around it.
It is not the right choice if you’re budget-conscious, if you’re happy with the catamaran version, or if you’re primarily interested in snorkelling and water activities rather than the beach-club atmosphere. The standard Malamala day pass delivers essentially the same island and the same water for a fraction of the price.
Practical notes
Weather: helicopter operations are subject to weather conditions. Your operator will advise on the day if conditions affect the flight. The boat return transfer operates in most conditions.
Cabana bookings: contact Malamala Beach Club directly after booking your tour to arrange optional upgrades. Don’t leave this until arrival day.
Voucher: the FJD $100 food and beverage voucher is per person. It is not transferable to other guests and cannot be redeemed as cash.
Group travel: the package suits couples and small groups well. If you’re travelling with a larger group, contact the operator to discuss arrangements.
FAQs
Is the helicopter flight suitable for people who are nervous flyers?
Helicopter flights are a different experience from commercial aircraft — lower, slower, and with much better visibility. Many guests who describe themselves as nervous on planes find the short scenic hop enjoyable rather than stressful. That said, if you have significant anxiety around flying, this is worth considering honestly before booking.
Can I book the boat transfer out and the helicopter back instead?
This package is structured as helicopter in, boat back — not the reverse. The operator has designed it this way deliberately: the arrival by helicopter is the memorable moment, and the boat return is the practical, scenic close to the day.
What happens if I spend more than my FJD $100 voucher?
Any spend beyond the voucher is charged to a tab card issued at check-in, settled by card or cash before the return boat transfer.
Is Malamala suitable for children?
Yes. The island is small and manageable, the beach entry is calm, and the watersports equipment is available to all ages. There is no dedicated kids’ programming, so it’s a beach and pool day rather than an activities day for young children.
